You know that saying from Richard Branson, “If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!” Well, it was 2010 and I was talking to everyone, explaining what mystery shopping was, and how it would improve their services, until one day when I got a phone call; someone wanted to work with me but could I do Pan-island? Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man… I didn’t think twice and said yes, so excited, I put the phone down and thought: ‘how I am going to do that?’

Within days I organised my trip to Guernsey to recruit shoppers and a few days in the Isle of Man. There, I stayed in a hotel, which had a lounge-bar so I could meet all of the people who had applied for the Mystery Shoppers’ job. In the evening something odd was happened, the bar staff must have heard me talk about mystery shopping and passed it on to the management. I sat down for dinner in the restaurant and was served as if I was a queen, at one point I could see the Chef and the Manager looking at me from behind the kitchen door, it was so funny. I was welcomed by the Manager in the morning asking how was my stay, giving me his business card, and asked how they did! I responded, how did you do what? Aren’t you an Hotel inspector, he said?? I was laughing inside and said, not that day but gave him my card and told him to call me if he wanted to have some mystery guests visits done, I could help!
